Why the estimates differ
Nobody outside Rockstar knows the final size yet. Fans trace the coastline from trailers and screenshots, and the numbers split on two questions: how far inland the playable area goes, and whether water around the Keys counts.
The live page uses outlines from the State of Leonida mapping project, labeled as estimates until Rockstar shows the full map.

FAQ
Before you ask
Is the GTA 6 map bigger than GTA 5?
Most fan estimates say yes: from about the same size (≈83 km²) up to roughly twice as big, against ≈81 km² for GTA 5. Rockstar has not published an official figure.
Is Leonida the same size as Florida?
No. Real Florida covers about 138,887 km² of land, more than a thousand times any estimate for Leonida. The game compresses the state into a playable map.
What real place is Vice City based on?
Miami. Leonida as a whole is Rockstar’s take on Florida, from the Keys in the south to the forests up north.
Will this page show the official size?
Yes. When Rockstar or the first players publish a measured figure, it replaces the estimates and the outline on the 3D map.
