Step by step

How to preload on Xbox

  1. Pre-order in the Microsoft Store on your Xbox, in the Xbox app or on the web.
  2. When preload opens, go to My games & apps → Full library → Owned games and choose Install.
  3. Set Settings → General → Power options to Sleep so the console keeps downloading in standby.

Troubleshooting

Preload not showing?

  • Bought the box? Redeem the code inside it first. Until you do, the game does not appear in your library.
  • Check the account region. The game shows up on the account that bought it, in that store region.
  • Make room first. Some consoles will not start a download that does not fit. Use the calculator above.
  • Restart and refresh the library. New entitlements can take a while to appear right when preload opens.
  • Downloaded but won’t start at midnight? Work through the launch-day fixes.

FAQ

Before you ask

How many GB is GTA 6?

The stores have not listed the install size yet. Ignore 300, 500 or 600 GB claims until they do; this page updates the day the listing changes.

When does GTA 6 preload start?

Nov 12, a week before launch. Rockstar confirmed that digital pre-orders on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S can start preloading that day. The game stays locked until midnight in your store region.

Can I preload the boxed version?

Yes. There is no disc: the box holds a download code, and it goes on sale on Nov 12 so you can preload with it. Redeem the code on your console, then download as with a digital pre-order.

Does preloading let me play early?

No. Preloading only downloads the files. The game unlocks at the same minute as for everyone else in your region.
